Today was a busy day in Division 14. We started two large projects today: one in Social Studies and one in Career Education. First, our Social Studies project is an inquiry project learning about different Aboriginal cultures in Canada. Students were put into partners and assigned a particular culture to research and create a poster presentation about. There are many skills that students will practice with this project: team work, note-taking, presentation skills, summarizing, reading and writing skills. This project will also align with the new core concepts in the new B.C. curriculum by having student engaging in self-assessment throughout the process. Check out the link below to see a sample of the package students are working with. This project is expected to take several weeks and photos of both the process and finished products will be posted here.
Secondly, students began their myBlueprint portfolio project today. myBlueprint is a program being used for graduation credits in all Langley secondary school and they also have an elementary version. Throughout the school year, students will use myBlueprint to build a portfolio describing many aspects of their learning profile: their cultural background, interests, learning styles as well as reflecting upon classroom activities and assignments. A notice was sent home a few weeks ago with instructions for how parents and students can log in to myBlueprint at home. The students REALLY enjoyed exploring the program today and began building their portfolio. Be sure to check it out at http://myblueprint.ca Login information was found on the information notice sent home and found below.
That's all for now. Happy Halloween!
