New Art ProjectToday we started a new art project to explore the concept of symmetry. We are focusing on the concept of reflectional symmetry and are creating cities using two different mediums: construction paper and water colour paints. Today, we constructed our cityscapes with construction paper. We created the criteria together by examining the example I showed the class. And then the fun began. I am so impressed with the skill and complexity of the cities the students are creating. Caine`s ArcadeTomorrow we have the opportunity to participate in Caine's arcade. In the Week at a Glance, I included a link to the website explaining what this is.
Caine was a 9 year old boy who created an arcade made completely out of cardboard in his father's automotive shop in East LA. Unfortunately, he only had one customer. Fortunately, that one customer was a videographer, Nirvan, who made a video about Caine's arcade. When he discovered he was the only customer, he arranged for a large group to surprise Caine by playing in his arcade. He also set up a scholarship fund for Caine and once his video went viral, inspired thousands of children to create their own cardboard arcades. Our Caine's Arcade has been created by WGSS students, many who were students of JKE previously. Students are required to bring a $1 entrance fee and will enjoy 45 minutes of playing the various cardboard games. Hopefully this will inspire them to all the possibilities they can achieve with some determination and courage. Week at a Glance will be sent home tomorrow. Have a great night. Mrs. Vieira
