The day we have been waiting for finally arrived: the Aboriginal beading workshop! Ms. Pamela first taught us the history of beads and what kinds of materials that different Aboriginal groups use to make their beads from. This is something Division 14 students had been learning about during their S.S. inquiry project so they had a lot of information to share. It made this teacher very proud. :) Then the students and their little buddies got to choose the different beads that they wanted to make their necklaces from. The students were very excited to learn that they would be practicing their symmetry skills while building their necklaces. They got to choose a pendent with an aboriginal animal on it and designed their necklaces before stringing them onto a curved piece of wire. Not only did they enjoy this activity, they were encouraged to help their little buddies with their necklaces. I was extremely proud of some of our students for the level of leadership they displayed in helping their little buddies complete their necklaces. They are quite the wonderful group of students. Everyone was very pleased and happy with their necklaces and I think they turned out great. I'm sure many of you got to see them at home.
