First, thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it to parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday. It was wonderful getting to meet some of you and I feel like our conversations were very positive and constructive. It reminded me how much of a team were really are in ensuring that your children receive the best education possible. If you weren't able to come to parent/teacher interviews, feel free to email either myself or Mrs. Anderson to either make an appointment or discuss over email. But in bigger news, today was an exciting day because the students were introduced to the Dash robots today. Many students have had some experience in previous years with Dash which was very helpful. Technology features strongly in the new B.C. curriculum (click here for a link) because many of the jobs our students will have in the future may use an aspect of technology. More than that, the creative thinking and problem solving skills often required when using technology are now considered essential skills. So although our students think they are just playing with cool robots, they are actually practicing some pretty sophisticated skills. Our plan is to teach our little buddies how to use the Dash robots next and then students will create mazes that they will eventually code the robots to solve. Stay tuned for more information and photos (I forgot to take photos today, d'oh!).
